First of all, the geek has finally got an iPhone! - So much better than the Blackberry, and yes I know that from experience. So does R' who referred to his blackberry as an iPhone, and then immediately felt awful about it. HA! - Serves you right!
I've been on LITU for 2 more weeks so far. The first week was fine, focusing on patient management. No one died, no one had a near miss, nothing exciting to be honest. - This week I was introduced to 'Big-guy'. Big-guy is a patient I was given to look after. He's 6ft 8, and must be about 20-25 stone, minimum. Hes not a fat guy, hes just really tall and stocky. With us for an OLT (Liver transplant) due to Hepatitis.
The first 2 shifts of looking after him, I was just screaming for the bowel management system to be authorised. For the simple reason, he needed turning every time, the fact that there was poo didn't annoy me at all. As time went on, I got used to it (so did my biceps). He had a trachy, and wasn't tolerating his speaking valve very much, so lip reading was a real pain. The amount of times he looked at me after I couldn't decipher his "speaking" was uncountable. He got used to the speaking valve and things were fine. the following day we had a good day, he was improving. Physios got him on a standing table, and oh my... Very tall man!
Day after I wasn't working with him, but was opposite, he didn't like the other nurses to kept calling me to help, (I didn't mind, I preferred it) the lady I was supposed to be looking after was a moody lady, she annoyed me. I worked with my other mentor, never worked with her before. I found out quite early that was a Lieutenant in the army. - Kinda showed...
I'm not in a writing mood, so bare with me. Long story short, my guy had a ?TIA/Stroke... Was not having the best day. Now at this point I ask you. Do you know what Ph stands for? I see those eyes rolling. Precisely. I didnt know either, and I didnt give a shit at 1900, after the crap day I had. I got her off my back eventually.
I asked her if i could go early (stated 1930), she said how about 1900. I thought that might be pushing my luck, but she said "Ah ok comprimise, 1915?" . Shouldn't it be the other way around? Me wanting the earlier time to leave? Ha. I don't care if it meant she didnt want me there. I didn't want to be there either.
